Chuck it or keep it? Centre for Sustainable Fashion Competition

October 2008 will see the Centre for Sustainable Fashion at London College of Fashion stage its first conference, asking whether fashion can bring about a long term lifecycle change to move us towards a more sustainable economy and better lives. The conference will feature an evening reception and catwalk show to include a showcase of selected work from the ‘Chuck it or Keep it' competition. This will showcase creative solutions to the issue of consumption and sustainability by students from across the UK.

Entrants are asked to consider new ways to design and make in one of the two following categories:

Materials Award: to cover selection, use and disposability of sustainable materials.

Innovation Award: to cover new technologies and / or preservation of traditional or cultural skills in design and production of fair and environmentally sound pieces.

Prizes: Submissions will be selected to be shown on the catwalk at the evening reception, 27 Oct 08. Winners to be announced and prizes awarded on the night:

Innovation Award (£1k prize + £500 runner up)

Materials Award (£1k prize + £500 runner up)

Finalists will show alongside commissioned pieces by designers who may include: Giles Deacon, Stella McCartney & Gary Harvey.

The deadline for applications has now been extended until 31st May 2008.
