Belaku Trust: Indian Textiles Project

The Asian Foundation for Philanthropy (AFP) was set up to link British Asians with exciting, innovative social change initiatives in Asia and provides volunteering opportunities for British South Asians.  One of the volunteer opportunities AFP are currently offering is a marketing and business advisor, which could suit a fashion business or marketing student:

Belaku Trust, India is currently seeking a volunteer marketing and business advisor to support a textiles and accessories women's income generation project. Local women are trained in block printing and produce a range of products including napkins, table cloths, bed sheets, bandannas and scarves. The volunteer would support the product designer by providing a link between Bangalore and the field as well as planning production quantities and designs, buying fabrics and contacting buyers for the products. Belaku Trust works with rural communities in the villages of Karnataka, India to promote health and development, with an emphasis on the needs of women and children. The trust also runs a range of community initiatives such as scholarship schemes and income generation groups.

Financial support and training provided by AFP. Placements are a minimum 4 weeks.  This is an ongoing opportunity so there is no set deadline though successful applicants depart July and Oct 2007.
