INTERNSHIPS: Fashion, Jewellery and Design

This is an opportunity for talented designers or fashion graduates with an interest in ethical fashion to contribute to creating an innovative collection which will be made by fair trade manufacturers around the world. Mayamiko, a new brand, are looking at designing 5-10 knitted pieces, max 5 woven pieces, a range of natural jewelery and accessories such as bags, purses etc. The range may include high-end t-s and tops, woven tops and dresses and potentially baby wear for the UK, European and US markets. Silk screen printing and embroidery possible. The garments, jewellery and accessories in the collection will be manufactured in Malawi, Kenya, India and Bangladesh among others. There is also an opportunity to design garments for the local market.

The ideal candidate must have an interest in ethical fashion, a passion for Africa and the developing world, an eye for new innovative trends that will sell, must be creative, passionate and love a challenge. They will be able to work from home on the brief and deadlines agreed with the team, but daily communication/updates and weekly meetings in London will be necessary. Duration may vary, however Mayamiko anticipate a max of 2-3 months.

This internship is unpaid, however expenses are covered. Initially Mayamiko will manufacture 500 to 1000 units of each agreed final design and credit will be given to the designer on our marketing & PR material and a letter of reference will be provided.
