Gone Rural Swaziland Internship
Gone Rural Swaziland is looking for a volunteer (living expenses paid) textile / product designer to come and work at their workshop in Swaziland, Africa starting in Nov - Jan 07 for 6 months (flexible). Gone Rural creates home based work to over 650 rural Swazi women through the production of hand crafted interior accessories and gifts. Their vision is to economically empower these women through the creation of high end products. We would like to engage with a designer to create innovate and unique new products using sustainable natural raw materials. The volunteer should have a BA graduate or MA in textile or product design (or similar). All accommodation and living expenses will be covered.
The women work with live traditional African lifestyles and for 80% of the women's families Gone Rural is their only source of income. The women support on average 8 dependents - these dependents include many AIDS orphans from within the communities. In addition to income generation Gone Rural works hard to support the communities through various projects such as the implementation of clean water supply, AIDS awareness testing and counselling and funding for orphans' school fees.
