Social economist Naila Kabeer examines the lives of Bangladeshi garment workers in Bangladesh and Britain and questions what constitutes ‘fair’ competition in international trade. She argues that in order to improve working conditions for women and children across world the focus must shift from imposing labour standards to support for the organization of labour rights.
