Postgraduate

MA Ethical Fashion

UCCA (Epsom) has launched what is believed to be a world first, a Masters Degree in Ethical Fashion. The new course considers the ethical dilemmas that face the multi-billion pound global fashion industry and for which it receives continuing and often adverse media attention. These include ongoing concern over production methods, - the use of cheap labour and working conditions in developing countries, the use of toxic chemicals and processes in manufacturing and natural materials such as fur; issues around ethical business models including so-called ‘fast- and slow-fashion', and debates about the social consequences of body image and size.

The new course aims to contribute to devloping graduates who are literate in these issues and who can help companies manage their corporate social responsibilities in a positive and productive way across all aspects of the fashion business, including research, management, promotion, and the practical expression of these values through design collections by providing an opportunity for graduates from a wide range of backgrounds who are linked by these concerns to study and work together.
